Bonsai Database Software

Bonsai-DB.zip is an Access 97 data base for tracking a bonsai collection compressed in the "zip" format. The readme.txt file describes the requirements and what the database can do. This is freeware.

Readme.txt

This is the documentation file for the Bonsai Database file,
Bonsai-DB.mdb. The file Bonsai-DB.mdb is a Microsoft Access 97 database file and requires Access 97 to run. Access is available in the MS Office97 Pro suite and as an upgrade from MS Office 97 for ~$99.

To download Bonsai-DB.mdb, first download the zip file, Bonsai-DB.zip and unzip it into Bonsai-DB.mdb.

Bonsai-DB is a full featured database program for keeping
track of bonsai collections.

The readme.txt data recorded for each tree includes:

    Division, Sub-Division, Family, Genus, Species,
    Common Name, Cultivars
Origin, Tree Age, Last Wired Date, Style
    Care, Notes
    Vendor, Cost, Date Acquired
Last Repotted Date, Pot color, Pot Shape
Tree ID #, 4 images per Tree, Date entered

The database includes the following features:

Enter Bonsai data in the "Tree Information Form"
Enter images of the Bonsai in the "Picture Form"
Enter calendar items in the "Bonsai Calendar Form"
Enter information in the "How to Grow Form"
Enter specific tree care in the "Tree Care Form"

    Create a "Tree Inventory Report"
    Create a "Single Tree Report"
    Create a "Transplant History Report"
    Create a "Wiring History Report"
    Create a "Taxonomy Report"
    Create a "Monthly Bonsai Calendar"
Create a "How to Grow Report"
    Create a "Tree Care Report"

To run the program, first launch MS Access97, and open the file
Bonsai-db.mdb. This will bring up a switch board titled "BONSAI
Database Main Switchboard". Use the input forms to enter data,
and use the reports to generate individual reports. The program
contains some sample data as a guide. You can delete this later.

The size of the file depends strongly on how many images are
included. MS Access 97 only understands bitmaps at this point
so all of the images must be in bitmap form. It is possible
that in the future jpeg type files may be able to be read
by Access.

Since the file is running inside MS Access, you can modify
the file to alter the look or the structure of the database
with the tools available in Access. If you do this, be careful.
This database file is distributed as freeware, and we ask that
you do not remove the copyright from the main switchboard.
